Summer Reading is here! June 8th - August 8th

What is the  Summer Reading Program? According to the American Library Assosiation, Summer reading programs began in the 1890s as a way to encourage school children, particularly those in urban areas and not needed for farm work, to read during their summer vacation, use the library and develop the habit of reading.

What is the Summer Slide? Summer break is typically a time for kids to kick back, indulge in a little extra screen time, play outside, and embrace the kind of freedom that only comes with being young and having zero responsibilities. However, all of this free time can lead to the summer slide, a regression in academic proficiency due to summer break, and experts warn it is hindering kids’ progress when they head back to school. -scholastic.com

Is the program just for kids? Summer Reading is for all ages! Everyone is encouraged to participate. Reach your reading goals this year by signing up. Its free and easy, and supporting the Library helps us fulfill our mission of life long learning for the community.

How do I sign up? Just visit the Library! We will provide a reading log and a list of all the themed events going on at the Library this summer for all ages!

How does it work? Track your reading using the provided reading log, and when youre finished, turn it in for the chance to win amazing prizes! There are no limits on what what qualifies as reading, so you can pick up whatever suits your taste - listening to audiobooks counts too!
