A Farewell Letter
Friends and Patrons,
It is with mixed emotions that I announce my departure from the Freeport Public Library, effective November 14th, 2025.
My decision was based on many factors, and it wasn’t an easy one to make, but in the end, I feel that this is the right decision both for myself and for the growth of the library. I want to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to have served in this role for the past 7 years. In my tenure I’ve learned so much which has helped me become a stronger leader, advocate, and collaborator. I will always hold a place in my life for Freeport and the professional and personal relationships I have made. I wish nothing but the best for the City of Freeport and the Freeport Public Library as they continue to successfully serve this community.
I will leave the library with great confidence in the staff, knowing that together they are capable of overcoming any hurdles that arise. I am proud of what we have accomplished together and I am thankful for the support of the library staff, the Board of Trustees, City Manager Boyer, Mayor Miller, and this community.
I genuinely appreciate your understanding and support with this decision, and I will work with the library team to create a seamless transition for your next Executive Director.
Youth Services Administrator, Amanda Meyers will be the Acting Director as the Board continues their search for a new director.
Thank you for the privilege of serving as your Director.
Wishing you all the best,

Ashley Huffines
Executive Library Director
